Daveed Diggs has been the talk of the New York theater scene for his performance as both ‘Thomas Jefferson’ and ‘Lafayette’ in the lauded musical Hamilton created by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Following its sold-out run at New York’s Public Theater, the show made the move to Broadway this summer and has been sold out since opening. The musical won the Obie for Best New American Theater Work and Daveed won the Lucille Lortel Award for his performance. The show earned a record-setting 16 Tony nominations including one for Diggs. The show also won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album at the 58th Grammy Awards, bringing down the house with a live performance on the February 15th telecast.
To give you an idea of the critical and cultural frenzy the musical has already started, a sampling of those who have attended are as follows: The Obama Family, Baz Luhrmann, Jerry Seinfeld, Robert DeNiro, Anna Wintour, Tom Hanks, Paul McCartney and the entire Clinton Family.
Daveed is also an accomplished hip-hop artist and musician. He is MC of the Los Angeles experimental hip hop group ‘clipping.’ The group released their debut album on Sub Pop in 2014 and have another coming out with Sub Pop shortly.
