Mark Teixeira is a former MLB first baseman, playing fourteen seasons for the Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and New York Yankees. Before his professional career, he played college baseball at Georgia Tech, where in 2000 he won the Dick Howser Trophy as the national collegiate baseball player of the year. One of the most prolific switch hitters in MLB history, Teixeira was an integral part of the Yankees' 27th World Series championship in 2009, leading the American League in home runs and RBI while finishing second in the Most Valuable Player Award balloting. Teixeira was a three-time All-Star, won five Gold Glove Awards and three Silver Slugger Awards, and also holds the all-time major league record for most games with a home run from both sides of the plate, with 14. He was the fifth switch hitter in MLB history to reach 400 home runs.
Charity and faith are incredibly important to Mark. After signing his first Major League contract, Mark endowed a scholarship at his alma mater (Mt. St. Joseph High in Baltimore) in the name of his best friend, who lost his life in a car accident. In addition, Mark has donated generously to Georgia Tech and continues to be active with the athletic department and baseball program. Mark is a board member of Harlem RBI/DREAM to which he has donated over $1 million dollars, and also established the Emerald Corridor Foundation in Atlanta.
Mark has a strong business acumen, having made angel investments in the private aviation company Wheels Up and Juice Press, a rapidly growing restaurant chain that serves cold-pressed juice and healthy food.
His hobbies include golfing, reading and fishing. He is also an avid film buff, sitting on the board of the Greenwich International Film Festival.
Mark will be joining ESPN as a full-time analyst for their Major League Baseball coverage for the 2017/2018 season.
He is a devout Catholic and resides in Greenwich, Connecticut, with his wife and three children.
